This position is budgeted to pay between $35,000 - $37,000 annually based upon past working experience. Overview: Is responsible for assisting in the overall management of the College's men's and women's wrestling programs including coaching, recruitment and retention of student-athletes, scheduling and budget management, equipment ordering, scheduling contests, viable fundraising, public relations, and other duties.
Job Duties:
Work under the direction of the Head Wrestling Coach to conduct and evaluate practice activities for designated team members. Provide group and individual assistance in a manner that engages the student-athletes and builds commitment to the program.
Work collaboratively with the Head Wrestling Coach to integrate efforts and create program success. Assist other staff members with activities as needed to reach the goals of the team.
Meet with prospective students and their family members both on campus and at remote locations. Provide advice and counsel on the admissions process, the Augustana experience and the integral role of the student-athlete in overall campus life.
Align and promote the core principals and standards of the program at all times.
Manage a diverse set of responsibilities including but not limited to assisting with travel arrangements, team travel meals, home event operations, and other duties as assigned in relation to team operations.
Provide feedback to assigned staff members and student workers on work performance and overall effectiveness.
Create teaching curriculums for physical education activity courses as assigned during the academic year. Find ways to engage students in learning activities.
Other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred in a related field.
Skills & Experience:
Three or more years experience in a coaching role, preferably at the small college level.
Ability to understand and comply with a variety of regulations from the NCAA, CCIW as well as other regulatory bodies.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to interact with a diverse group of coaches, administrators, student athletes, prospective students and families and other members of the campus community.
Strong prioritization and organizational skills.
Must have a thorough understanding of and accountability to NCAA and CCIW rules and regulations. Strong commitment to the academic and athletic success of the student-athlete.
Work Hours & Travel: This position requires travel to away contests during the season and to high school/club events, and other opportunities to meet with prospective students. Extended weekend and evening hours especially during the wrestling season are expected. Current valid driver's license required.
Physical Requirements: This position is located on campus and works in a traditional office environment. The below requirements are expected:
Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Also required is the ability to listen, hear, speak, read, write, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and stand for intermittently long periods of time. Must be able to use a computer to accomplish a variety of job tasks.
Special Requirements: As key personnel representing the College, this position requires excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to relate to a diverse population, and the ability and willingness to model the mission and high standard of behavior of Augustana College. Successful candidates must pass a criminal background check.
Augustana is seeking a Graduate Assistant Men's & Women's Wrestling Coach to assistant with the continued development of all phases of the program.
All academic work will be completed through an agreement with Western Illinois University. The position is contingent upon full, regular acceptance into a graduate degree program and successful completion of all employment requirements at Western Illinois University. The Graduate Assistant position includes a monthly stipend plus a tuition waiver. The successful candidate will be responsible for books and additional course fees. A number of graduate degree programs are viable options. The Graduate Assistant position will be an annual 10-month commitment (August 1 - May 31) over a minimum of two academic years.
