Position Overview
Menlo College Athletics seeks a Head Men’s Wrestling Coach to lead all aspects of the program, including recruitment, retention, competitive performance, and overall program development.
This is a full-time, 11-month exempt position reporting jointly to the Director of Wrestling and the Vice President for Athletics.
The Head Coach is responsible for building and sustaining a competitive program aligned with institutional expectations for academic success, student development, and operational discipline. The role requires independent judgment in recruiting strategy, roster management, scholarship input, budget planning, staffing, and daily program operations.
This position operates within a structured Athletics model where performance, accountability, and student outcomes are expected to align.
Role Scope
The Head Men’s Wrestling Coach leads the program across four connected areas:
Program Performance: Build and sustain a competitive team through effective recruiting, development, and match preparation.
Student-Athlete Development: Ensure student-athletes succeed academically, engage in the campus community, and develop leadership and personal accountability.
Program Operations: Manage budget, staffing, scheduling, and logistics with discipline and consistency.
Institutional Alignment: Operate consistently within institutional and Athletics standards, and governing rules.
Core Responsibilities
Program Leadership and Strategy: Define and implement clear program standards, goals, and expectations Establish a consistent training, competition, and development model Evaluate program performance and adjust strategy as needed
Recruiting and Retention: Lead all recruiting efforts in alignment with Menlo College admissions standards Build and manage a roster that supports both competitive success and retention Maintain consistent communication and relationship management with prospective student-athletes
Student-Athlete Development: Promote academic success, accountability, and progress toward graduation Create structured opportunities for leadership development and community engagement Reinforce standards of conduct consistent with institutional expectations
Operations and Resource Management: Develop and manage the program budget with fiscal discipline Oversee travel, scheduling, equipment, and daily operations Provide input on scholarship allocation and long-term roster planning
Staff Leadership: Hire, supervise, develop, and evaluate assistant coaches and staff Establish clear roles, expectations, and accountability within the program
Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure full compliance with NCAA Division II, conference, and institutional rules Maintain accurate documentation and participate in required compliance processes
External Engagement: Represent Menlo College in a professional and consistent manner Support fundraising, alumni engagement, and program visibility efforts This role operates within the broader institutional environment outlined below.

Job Requirements
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred in a related field
Minimum of 3–5 years of coaching experience, preferably at the intercollegiate level
Knowledge and Competency
Working knowledge of NCAA Division II rules and ability to operate within them
Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and retain student-athletes
Strong organizational, communication, and relationship management skills
Leadership and Management
Ability to lead, manage, and evaluate a collegiate athletics program
Experience supervising staff and establishing clear expectations and accountability
Capacity to manage multiple priorities with consistency and sound judgment
Student-Athlete Focus
Commitment to academic success, personal development, and competitive performance
Ability to build a structured, accountable, and supportive team environment
Operational Expectations
Ability to manage program operations, including budgeting, scheduling, and logistics
Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required
Fundraising and external engagement experience preferred
